Couples rarely come to counselling because of one argument. They come because a pattern has repeated long enough that both people can predict it and neither can stop it. The assessments in this section are built around that reality: they look at recurring patterns rather than isolated incidents, and they are written so that one person can complete them honestly without needing their partner's agreement first.
Seven assessments sit here because relationships fail and recover along several different lines. How securely you connect, how much closeness currently exists, how emotionally available each person can be, whether trust is intact, whether the timing is right, how you communicate under pressure, and what your conflicts actually do — these are separate questions, and couples are often strong on some while struggling badly on one.
Answering about yourself rather than about your partner is the single thing that makes these useful. A result that catalogues someone else's faults changes nothing. A result that clarifies your own contribution to a pattern is something you can act on this week.
The relationship attachment pattern test is the broadest. It looks at how you tend to seek closeness and handle distance across relationships, which is often the frame that makes the others make sense. Trust and relationship security is narrower and more current: whether you feel safe, whether reliability has been damaged, and how vigilance is affecting you now.
Relationship connection is about the relationship as a whole — shared time, warmth, responsiveness and whether the two of you still turn towards each other. Emotional availability is about individual capacity: whether you can be present with feeling, your own and your partner's, rather than managing it from a distance. Couples often need both, and they usually score differently.
Communication under stress focuses on skill in the moment: what you do when the conversation gets hard. Conflict pattern focuses on structure: whether arguments escalate, stall, repeat or end without resolution. Relationship readiness is for people deciding whether to commit further, or whether now is the right time.
Completing an assessment separately and then comparing what each of you noticed is more productive than doing it together. It removes the pull to answer diplomatically, and the difference between the two sets of answers is often the most useful conversation available.
If the relationship involves fear, control, intimidation or any form of violence, please do not use these tools as a way of working out whether the situation is serious. Speak to a professional or a support service directly — safety comes before reflection.
None of these assessments diagnoses anything. They do not confirm or rule out a condition, they are not a clinical interview, and a score is not a label. What they can do is give language to something that has been hard to describe, and show whether a pattern is intense enough, or persistent enough, to be worth a professional conversation.
They also cannot tell you whether to stay or leave. No questionnaire has access to your history, your commitments, your values or what has already been tried. What a result can do is describe the pattern precisely enough that a conversation — with your partner, or with a counsellor — starts from something concrete.
